Swami Vivekananda Biography: Swami Vivekananda, a prominent Indian spiritual leader, was born on January 12, 1863, in Kolkata, India. His birth name was Narendranath Datta. He grew up in an affluent family deeply rooted in Indian spirituality and culture.
Vivekananda was a spiritual leader in India. He tried to bring together Indian spirituality and Western progress. He believed they both helped each other. He thought that each person’s higher self was very important. He believed that working for the good of people was the best thing to do.
He was born in a well-off family in Calcutta and went to a school that taught things in a Western way. There, he learned about Western ideas like philosophy, Christianity, and science. He cared a lot about changing society. He joined a group called Brahmo Samaj, which aimed to stop child marriages, illiteracy, and to give education to everyone, including women and people from lower castes. Later, he became a top follower of Ramakrishna, who showed that all religions had something in common.
He always talked about the Vedas, ancient Hindu texts, and how they were for everyone, not just one group. He wanted Hindu ideas to be seen in a new way, not just as peaceful but also active and helpful. Vivekananda worked to spread Hindu beliefs in the West. In 1893, he went to Chicago to speak about Hinduism at a big meeting of different religions. People were amazed by his speech and considered him the best speaker there. After that, he gave talks in the United States and England, gaining followers for the Vedanta movement.
When he came back to India in 1897, he made the Ramakrishna Mission near Calcutta. He believed in self-improvement and helping others. His teachings were modern but based on ancient Hindu ideas. Even though he passed away early in the 20th century, he had a big influence on both Eastern and Western cultures.

Under Ramakrishna’s guidance, Narendra delved deeper into meditation, spiritual practices, and the study of various religious philosophies.
Swami Vivekananda Spiritual Awakening and Career
After the passing of Ramakrishna, Narendra, now known as Swami Vivekananda, dedicated his life to the service of humanity. He embarked on a journey across India, witnessing poverty, inequality, and the struggles of the masses. Vivekananda was deeply moved by the plight of his countrymen and felt a strong calling to uplift and empower the masses, especially the youth.
