The Seven Wonders of the World include outstanding architectural marvels from throughout the world. These famous monuments include India’s Taj Mahal, China’s Great Wall, Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer Statue, Peru’s Machu Picchu, Mexico’s Chichen Itza, Rome’s Roman Colosseum, and Jordan’s Petra.

Furthermore, the Great Pyramid of Giza has been designated as an honorable contender for one of the world’s seven wonders. However, it is not officially recognized as one of the world’s seven wonders. The New 7 Wonders Swiss Foundation launched a campaign in 2000 to identify the world’s next seven marvels. Finally, in 2007, the architectural marvels emerged victorious, earning them the title “Seven Wonders of the World.”

The Roman Colosseum Rome, Italy The Roman Colosseum proudly claims the distinction of the world’s biggest amphitheater, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. This magnificent building was built around 80 CE by the Flavian emperors during the first century of the Roman Empire.
Machu Picchu Cuzco Region, Peru In the 15th century, the illustrious Incan emperor Pachacuti commissioned the construction of a remarkable estate known as Machu Picchu. Situated at an awe-inspiring altitude of approximately 8,000 feet (2,430 meters) above sea level, this architectural gem stands as a testament to the ingenuity and mastery of the Incan civilization.

1. Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal, located in Agra, India, is a beautiful marble structure that represents the pinnacle of Mughal architecture. The Taj Mahal, built by Emperor Shah Jahan (reigned 1628-1658) as a memorial to his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who unfortunately died in 1631 while giving birth to their 14th child, is commonly regarded as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. 

This incredible project required the collaboration of roughly 20,000 trained workers, who were overseen by a panel of prominent architects of the day.

2. Christ the Redeemer Statue

The awe-inspiring Cristo Redentor, or Christ the Redeemer Statue, rises towering in the Art Deco style atop Mount Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro. Heitor da Silva Costa created this stunning 130-foot monument out of reinforced concrete and soapstone. 

The statue’s creation cost roughly $250,000, which was mostly covered by charitable donations. It stands proudly on the pinnacle of Corcovado Mountain within the scenic Tijuca Forest National Park, affording stunning views of Rio de Janeiro and weighing a whopping 635 tonnes.

4. The Roman Colosseum

5. Machu Picchu

6. Chichen Itza

8th Wonder of the World

The Panama Canal, which opened more than a century ago, stands as an incredible tribute to human ingenuity and is regarded as a candidate for the title of “eighth wonder of the world.” Its construction not only created the greatest artificial lake of its time, but also the largest earth dam ever built.

The Panama Canal, which spans 48 miles, provides a key shortcut for ships, allowing them to go from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean while avoiding almost 15,000 kilometers of journey around the South American continent—the same distance from London to Queensland.

The canal, which acts as a spectacular water elevator, orchestrates the elevation and fall of ships by an incredible 26 meters while navigating them over an impressive mountain range. This architectural marvel alone permitted the passage of several thousand boats and the shipment of a quarter-million metric tonnes of cargo in 2019.
