Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti 2024 History

Guru Gobind Singh was born in Patna, Bihar, on December 22, 1666. His father, Guru Tegh Bahadur, was beheaded by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb because he refused to change his religion to Islam. Guru Gobind Singh’s mother was Mata Gujri. The place where he was born is now called Takhat Shri Harimander Ji Patna Sahib. When he was nine years old, on the day of Baisakhi in 1676, Guru Gobind Singh became the tenth Sikh guru.

His father’s stand against converting to Islam led to Guru Gobind Singh becoming the Sikh leader at such a young age. Unfortunately, he passed away at the age of 41 in 1708. Besides being a leader, Guru Gobind Singh was also a talented poet and writer. Before he died, he declared the Guru Granth Sahib as the permanent Sikh Guru.

He played a big part in creating the Khalsa Panth, a group that followed spiritual rules under his guidance. Guru Gobind Singh introduced the five K’s, which are symbols of Sikh identity. These include Kesh (uncut hair), Kangha (a wooden comb), Kara (an iron or steel bracelet worn on the wrist), Kirpan (a sword), and Kacchera (short breeches). The teachings and advice from Guru Gobind Singh have inspired many people around the world and left a lasting impact.
