Global Family Day 2024 History
The history of Global Family Day traces back to two books. One is a children’s book from 1996 called ‘One Day in Peace, January 1, 2000,’ written by Steve Diamond and Robert Alan Silverstein. The story envisions a world where everyone works together for a peaceful and prosperous Earth. The other book is ‘Tree Island: A Novel for the New Millennium,’ a utopian novel from 1998 by American peace activist Linda Grover. Grover dedicated over a decade to establish January 1 as a global day of peace but unfortunately passed away on February 10, 2010.
Linda Grover chose January 1 because it was the date mentioned in Diamond and Silverstein’s book as the day when the whole world comes together to coexist peacefully. Although the United Nations members were invited to organize Global Family Day celebrations on January 1, as mentioned in the ‘One Day in Peace’ book in 1999, the annual celebrations officially started a year later and have continued since then.
It’s worth noting that Global Family Day aligns with the World Day of Peace, established in 1967 and annually celebrated by the Catholic Church.
Global Family Day 2024 Significance
